The tiny village of Santa Maria di Leuca is well known for its outstanding seashore: travellers and locals love to reach the southernmost point of Puglia and stare at the amazing show of the Ionian Sea meeting with the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll find plenty of stunning beaches near the town as well as in the whole Salento area: beach life is highly recommended!
One-day excursions may undoubtedly include the beautiful Lecce, the capital of Barocco Pugliese – a very peculiar architectural style whose main features are lavish decorations and round shapes. Stunning sceneries, idyllic beaches and remarkable landmarks can be found in Otranto as well: don’t miss the striking mosaics of the Cathedral, the majestic Aragonese Castle with its beautiful view and, of course, a stroll through the tiny streets of the historical centre, sided by lovely monuments and palaces as well as by interesting boutiques and souvenir shops.
A day in the countryside means the discovery of the placid landscape of the Murgia plateau: olive and almond groves, fig trees, typical “trulli” conic houses and the typical rust-coloured ground.
